About Us
Club Name
Cairns Model Railway Club
Type of Club
The Cairns Model Railway Club (CMRC) was formed in 2018 to foster the interest in and development of model railways and associated model making. The club is fortunate in having access to an excellent transportable HO layout as can be seen in the photo gallery. Since inception the club has also been donated an HO shunting layout and an N scale layout which replicates an industrial town in the north of England. These were both neglected over many years and are providing the club with challenging projects to restore them to their former glory.

The club has close connections with the National Model Railway Association (NMRA) which enables it to provide a public liability insurance for the club and its members when on official club business (i.e. meetings, public gatherings, etc). All members of CMRC are required to also be members of NMRA to achieve this.

The club holds informal meetings every Thursday evening (5.00pm) and a formal monthly meeting on the third Sunday of each month (10.30am) at it’s interim clubroom, to which all visitors and prospective members are welcome.

Latest News

Please watch this space for news about our latest activities. The Club is currently operating in accordance with Queensland Government Covid-19 regulations and the requirements of our Insurers, but we are currently able to hold weekly forums and monthly meetings.

Members and guests must advise us in advance that they wish to attend on a given day. They must sign in and out and supply a valid phone number, or email address each time they attend. We supply disposable cups for tea or coffee and you must use the supplied hand sanitiser before you enter the building. Social distancing rules apply.

It's a legislative requirement that you don't attend meetings or gatherings if you have symptoms of a cold, flu or other respiratory problems.

Our Thursday evening meetings are very casual. We discuss a wide range of topics and focus on assisting newbies to overcome problems however trivial they may seem.
