Cairns with a population of 140,000 is one of the few cities in Australia without a miniature railway. This could be due to lifestyle or the hot, damp and humid wet season we experience between December and March each year. Our parks are often infested with sandflies and some people react badly to these microscopic insects.
Despite that, Innisfail just 100 km south and with a population about 10,000 has an excellent miniature railway under construction.
I've always planned to start a miniature railway in Cairns, but health and business commitments have always been at odds with this dream.
Hopefully.
